Stage 1: The Moral Diagnosis: For most of the 20th century (and still in many parts of the world today), ADD was a 'ethical medical diagnosis'. This refers to the fact that people with ADD were thought about to just be 'bad'. They were evaluated as weak, inadequate, and they had to try more difficult. This was a dark moment for the awareness of ADD. This view of the diagnosis is limiting, unfavorable and perpetuates shame and regret. The field of ADD has moved past the stage of the 'ethical diagnosis', sadly it is still around today. Journalism frequently reports on how ADD is due to bad parenting, weak point of character and even video. There is no evidence to support these views (or any social causes at all) and we highly believe that everybody should get far past this view of ADD.
